NBC’s CHUCK is such a welcome surprise and one of the best and funniest TV shows I’ve seen in a while, something which normally is an omen for immediate cancellation (but, thankfully, NBC picked it up for the pudgy season) . CHUCK achieves that heady mix of humor, action, espionage, and even a high-tail of romance (or pining, to be more sincere) . And it’ll have you rooting for the nerd hero Chuck Bartowski, the physically hapless but nonetheless invaluable original member of the U.S. secret agent fraternity. Whereas, before, Chuck was someone who for thrills lived life vicariously thru video games and films, he’s all of a sudden forced to cope with experiencing the very intense trusty thing.

The 411 on the premise and plot: A rogue CIA agent, fair before being killed, downloads a wealth of top secret government files into the brain of his used college roommate Chuck Bartowski, a seemingly disastrous choice at first blush. Chuck is a social misfit, a computer geek who toils at the Nerd Herd electronics department of the Lift More supermarket. His attend system consists of his best bud Morgan, who’s even more of a loser than Chuck, and Chuck’s shapely, protective sister Ellie (Sarah Lancaster), who is perpetually concerned for him and his lack of a social life. That Chuck lives with Ellie and her laid serve boyfriend, Captain Awesome, doesn’t exactly acquire him points with the chilly location. But, for Chuck, things are about to change.

Chuck meets Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski), who seems to really like him. But Sarah is really a CIA agent sent to wrest the stolen intel from him. Finding out that the top secret data is imbedded in his noggin, she is then assigned to preserve tabs on him. To do so, Sarah works at Wienerlicious and poses as Chuck’s chica. Meanwhile, the NSA trots out its top operative, the no-nonsense John Casey (the awesome Adam Baldwin), who as conceal hires on as a Bewitch More sales clerk.

Nowadays, anguish and intrigue lurk at every corner for Chuck Bartowski, who finds himself leading a double life and is now sometimes referred to as the Intersect (mostly by Casey) . Soon, he’s tangling with ninjas, dark agents, terrorists, and bombs – and that’s objective in the first episode. Further shows would unveil even greater anxiety and more mystery. Seeds of distrust are sown as Chuck also struggles with the constant hedging and fabrication brought on by his CIA and NSA minders. More importantly, despite obstacles do up by his nemesis, the depraved Asian dude Harold Tang (okay, he’s not really noxious…but he’s bald), Chuck’s trying out for the assistant manager gig at the Prefer More. Superb luck, Chuck.

CHUCK is a consistently comical, laughable note doubling as a straight-up gape thriller. There are plenty of slick, potent action sequences, but the heart of the series is the droll fish-out-of-water premise of the geek caught in serious cloak-and-dagger environs. The point to provides a loyal dosage of nerd/slacker humor which always has me smiling for the duration of the episodes. And, instead of Chuck suddenly developing kung fu skills, the series makes obvious that Chuck remains inept and a bit cowardly (Chuck would seize to refer to it as being “prudent”) . Zachary Levi as Chuck is wonderfully straight-faced yet has that funny timing down pat. He’s very sympathetic as a guy whose colossal heart is shyly on his sleeve.

Which leads us to another focal point of the show: Chuck’s tentative relationship with the pretty Sarah, who as a gawk is forever on her guard and who’s detached grieving over her original past with a fellow agent. But there’s a connection between her and our current Nerd Herder, as Sarah realizes that Chuck really is a most decent dude. But only time will squawk if it pans out. Australian Yvonne Strahovski is well cast as the lethal and accomplished secret agent, who can kick enemy agent heinie even a she dances sensuously with a clueless partner (yes, that would be Chuck) . Yet Strahovski, when called for, can lend a torn, vulnerable air to her calculating superspy (check out “Chuck versus the Nemesis” to behold fair how conflicted she becomes) . And, holy ministrone, she’s hot! On the other hand, I don’t contemplate the looming Adam Baldwin is hot, but he’s one of my current dudes to glimpse on TV. Fans of Joss Whedon will remember Baldwin from his memorable recurring roles in ANGEL and FIREFLY. Here, he makes for an intimidating sales clerk and government peer.

I am currently in solid geek heaven with CHUCK. Here’s hoping NBC continues to befriend this expose for a busload of seasons. Here’s to Chuck (and friends) waging war against irate Bewitch More patrons, staving off calculating co-workers, and also fending off some of the most diabolical enemies of America, mom, and apple pie. And all that while shouldering the stigma of a dead-end job. Draw to go, Chuck!

CHUCK did the one thing that any honorable series needs to do: it managed to fetch better as it went along. To savor it one has to be able to suspend quite a bit of disbelief. One has to imagine it somehow possible for someone to have the entire contents of the CIA computer database downloaded into the brain of a single human being. One further has to imagine that this person would “flash” on seeing people, objects, names, or whatever, recognizing a series of connections that would race any other person. Finally, you have to acquire that this individual would continue to work in their poorly paid job at Retract More while his advisors from the CIA and the NSA would work either alongside him in Grasp More or nearby in a wiener swiftly foot joint. A plausible premise? Of course not! But if you lop it a lot of tedious it provides one heck of a fun race.

Why would one crop it leisurely? Well, first and foremost because Zachary Levi is enjoyable in the title role. As Chuck, Levi is able to combine basic reliable looks with convincing nerdiness to a degree not often achieved on television. I’ve read that series creator Josh Schwartz originally offered the role to Adam Brody, with whom he had worked on his previous display THE O.C. I’ve also read that Brody was offered the lead in the extraordinarily big current series PUSHING DAISIES. I loved Brody on THE O.C. as Seth Cohen, but I consider both shows are probably better off with Zachary Levi and Lee Paddle.

A second major reason to nick CHUCK some leisurely is the astounding Australian import Yvonne Strahovski, who instantly became not only one of the most resplendent women on American TV as well as one of the best female action heroes. Her Sarah and Chuck have large chemistry and as we await the originate of Season Two next drop (CHUCK has been renewed, but there will be no more fresh episodes for Season One) one of the great questions is how things will progress with them. I also enjoyed Adam Baldwin (probably best known as “Jayne” on FIREFLY) as John Casey, though I assume they need to give his character some depth. In Season One he was scheme too worthy of a one-dimensional character. It wasn’t anything that Baldwin did; it was impartial the plot his character was written. Now, looking around on boards I know that a lot of people loved Joshua Gomez as Chuck’s best friend Morgan, but I found him an unending source of irritating distraction. If there is one character on TV that I would esteem to notice proceed from any point to, for me it would be Morgan on CHUCK. His and Chuck’s relationship doesn’t seem to be coded as joyful in any veteran sense, but you’d boom that Morgan wants to marry Chuck. He is fair that obsessed.

I liked that the explain managed to evolve and invent as it went along. When it first started off I was terrorized that it had no potential for such development, that it was going to degenerate merely to the “flash of the week” and no more.

2007-2008 has to be counted a triumph for Josh Schwartz. Though FOX had cancelled THE O.C. the previous year (actually, I deem they cancelled it in their minds after the absolutely abysmal Season Three, but let it go on to a more natural conclusion) . But he rebounded hugely with CHUCK and GOSSIP GIRL, two of the better shows of the current television series. He even managed some beneficial natured self-mockery as two clerks at Pick More play a game where they click to novel TV shows on cable and try to discover both the prove and season. As they click one of the lands on THE O.C. and says some droll things about it. And Schwartz brought over Summer herself from THE O.C., Rachel Bilson, for a couple of episodes.

I unexcited have some doubts about how mighty long term potential this series has. But I plan that after the pilot and was surprised that they managed to withhold it unusual through the entire first season. It is discouraged that we didn’t secure a fleshy slate of episodes due to the strike, but at least it will be abet in the tumble.

I’ll be ravishing first. I don’t always like Michael Moore. While some of Dreary White Men made me laugh, other parts were offensive to me, particularly a chapter devoted to his occupy foriegn policy “ideas.” His next film is going to be called Farenheit 911, and he’s said that he’s definite to release it in October 2004, accurate before the election. I’m not a fan of Bush, but I anxiety it may be hard to sit through a movie that was created entirely to slander someone.

That’s why I like Bowling for Columbine, because I sense unprejudiced intentions slack it. Moore comes from Flint, Michigan, a state where a puny girl was shot by her classmate shortly before Bowling for Columbine was shot. He’s unlit to view these happening to our nation’s children, and he wants to know why. The most necessary fraction of this film, at least in my understanding, is how it systematically refutes “explanations” for gun violence.

-Charlton Heston blames it on a “mixed ethnicity,” but Moore claims Canada had an even bigger mix, complete with a lower crime rate.

-Violent video games? Japan has distinguished more violent games than we do, and their homicide rate is grand lower as well.

-Violent history? Germany was once home to the Nazi party, and they have a lower rate than us.

One possibility he raises that I always found very reasonable was the description of grand high school prssure that was discussed in his interview with Matt Stone. Kids are cruel to each other growing up, and I assume the reason those Columbine kids snapped was because of years and years of teasing by their classmates.

Conservatives seem very intimidated by Bowling for Columbine, I’m not obvious why. It doesn’t seem so uncertain to me. Do you judge that a movie would be enough to ever change the policy of the president? Anyone who heard the “with us or with the terrorists” speech should know the reply to that. But then again, some of these people who flip out over the Dixie Chicks or Tim Robbins stating their opinions never seem to be able to engage that these isolated incidents of free speech are beautiful harmless.

Moore is often called an Anti-American, which is a term I mediate is overused and rarely appropriate. Osama Bin Laden is an Anti-American. Moore would not like to eye American destroyed, he would like to be a status with less violent deaths and discontent citizens. Moore doesn’t dislike America, he loves America. The free speech he’s grown up with has given him the opportunity to write his books and originate his movies. He is certainly anti-Bush, but why should that produce someone anti-American? I’m determined plenty of conservatives were anti-Clinton or anti-Carter of anti-Kennedy, but I would never call them anti-Americans. Our proper enemies are people who would demolish crowded buildings in NYC, not people who voted for Gore.

Yet, despite all this, the attacks on Moore’s film are often totally vicious and off-base. A disturbing number of the reviews on this area, and many others, attack his weight more often than they attack the film. Yes, Moore is elephantine but so is Race Limbaugh for God’s sake.

Now, as for the allegations that Moore has fabricated some of the events in this film, I’m not certain exactly how to address all of them. Did he pick Charlton Heston’s “From my chilly stupid hands” speech totally out of context? Yes, he might have. But the thing is, this happens ALL THE TIME. Doesn’t earn it moral, but it does happen. The Dixie Chicks said they were ashamed Bush was from Texas, you hardly ever read about the apology they issued shortly afterward. Critics of Bowling for Columbine only cite parts of it to try and dismiss the whole movie as meritless, and that’s the same thing. And also, do these people really deem that Race Limbaugh and people over at Fox News always prove certain and fine arguments about their politics? I don’t believe so.

Bowling for Columbine may not be entirely legal, and it’s advisable for a viewer to hold an begin mind and swallow everything so easily. But it is a brilliantly constructed polemic, moving to glance and certainly relevant. No matter what your politics, you’ll judge on the issues raised here after seeing the movie, and that’s admirable in itself.

Bowling for Columbine is a movie, and like all art it is certainly subjective. Those out there who are alarmed of the left sail having a chance to content out? Don’t be. The war in Iraq calm happened despite vocal objections from many Americans, so what do you have to distress about? People (and don’t call us anti-Americans) who are disillusioned with the spot of the country, disillusioned by the constant violence going on here, disillusioned by lies and the manipulation of media, may net some brief solace in a movie like this. Is that so depraved? I assume this is Michael Moore’s best work, because it concerns all of us. I can give this film nothing less than my highest recommendation.

I have taken 4 friends to sight this movie. I have even seen this movie while I was in Montreal to inspect what the Canadian reaction would be. I must say, I was embarrassed to be an American after watching this movie. I then conception of all the things I should be doing to form this dwelling a better site to live. In other words, this is a view provoking movie that is truly appealing.

You will examine Charles Heston wring his hands in nervousness after he says, “We don’t want any more of that civil rights business going on again”, or “the reason America is violent is because of all the mixed ethnicities.” What an idiot.

And that is honest what Michael Moore does, he shows people and the government in their natural element speaking freely, and shows us how insane they are and sound. From George Bush proclaiming that our number one priority should be defense spending when people all over the country are out of work and children are living in poverty without parent supervision, to the crackpot rednecks who are buying more “guns and ammo” because they want to protect themselves from the “improper doers.” It’s this candid honesty of Moore’s subjects that makes us glance inward to how this country gone astray. Then Moore tries to elaborate this with his incredible short animation movie “A Brief History of the United States of America.” Although he simplifies everything, and it is truly brief, it hits home and is certainly seek opening.

Moore tries to define the inquire of of why America is so violent. Why we are the new country in the world that kills people with guns on the gargantuan level that the United States does. He offers a lot of options to this retort, but ultimately, he leaves the query originate for the viewer to search out within him/herself for the respond and compose change.

A truly tall achievement and I can’t wait till his next film that is due out 2 months before the election that will no doubt, start up people’s eyes to the sinister and blood thirsty administration that occupies the White House.

I weak to own that Anime was nothing but sex and violence — stuff for grown-ups only. However, I assume it befriend. And I owe it to this cute minute gem called KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE that really turned me around for the better. It introduced me to arguably one of the greatest animators of all time, Hayao Miyazaki, who happens to be dubbed as the Walt Disney of Japan. Having since seen virtually ALL of his films, from CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO to Arresting AWAY, I can glance why he is such a highly acclaimed artist — his works (and I mean every one of them) are a stroke of genius.

KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE may have been my first dependable exposure to Miyazaki, but this happens to be the director’s fifth film, which was the highest grossing movie of its year in Japan. Adapted from a children’s book by Eiko Kadono (which is to be released in America as of this writing), the film is not a typical good-versus-evil conflicted, dysfunctional sage but a gentle, character-driven memoir with endearing characters, stunning artistry, and a strong, obvious message about confidence and independence that are quite encouraging for all, from the youngest of children to the oldest at heart. (On a side price, it persuaded me to fetch some spend! The “burly, full, Pudgy!!!” line did it for me.)

The narrative is about 13-year faded Kiki, an adorable witch-in-training, who, on one moonlit night, leaves her hometown to recognize her independence and fortune. She’s accompanied by her wisecracking and hilarious pet dusky cat, Jiji, and a tiny wobbly when it comes to takeoffs and landings while maneuvering her broomstick. Kiki arrives at a luxurious town with an ocean concept where she eventually finds work at a bakery hurry by the expedient Osono and her calm, gruff husband. There, she starts a high-flying delivery service which opens up many modern relationships for the budding witch — including a pleasurable painter, Ursula, a kind frail woman, Madame, and a boy named Tombo, who dreams of flying.

The above synopsis may sound tedious, but KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE certainly is not. It is a joy to view from launch to execute as we explore Kiki slowly grow up and learn to have faith in herself, especially when her powers initiate to travel away toward the destroy of the movie. It’s inspiring enough to preserve one’s attention and there are a number of tear-jerking moments that gain it more than fair a movie. This is a characteristic you’ll only be able to gain in Miyazaki, and KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE “delivers” a unbelievable movie which shows that movies don’t have to be about overcoming infamous or action-packed or angst-ridden to be bewitching.

In 1996, Disney struck a deal with Studio Ghibli, Miyazaki’s studio, to distribute the director’s movies worldwide. KIKI was their first release. It proved to be a very successful release when it was released to video on September of 1998; it sold over a million copies in the US – a recount for any Anime video. But since then, the movie has been out of print, and there was never a DVD release. Recently, however, Disney has given this movie its first ever DVD release in America (debuting alongside CASTLE IN THE SKY and Fascinating AWAY) .

The movie was originally dubbed into English by Carl Macek of Streamline Pictures, but Disney redubbed the movie for its initial release with an all-star cast that did a truly kindly job with their roles. Thirteen-year-old Kirsten Dunst is perfect as Kiki, eliciting unprejudiced the honest touch of cuteness, spunkiness, independence, and poignancy to her role. The other actors, which include Debbie Reynolds (Madame), Tress MacNeille – of Runt TOONS and ANIMANIACS fame – (Osono), Jeanane Garofolo (Ursula), and Matthew Lawrence (Tombo), give similarly good performances. Of the actors, however, it is the slack Phil Hartman’s witty, sarcastic steal on Jiji that steals the display. He added in some unusual dialogue and proved to be so favorable at his role that he actually expanded the character. I narrate, I objective cannot score enough laughs every time I hear his lines. (“First, don’t alarm! Second, don’t scare! And THIRD, did I mention not to alarm?!? “) The opening and ending songs were replaced by two handsome, rollicking numbers from Sydney Forest, but even they seem to suit the tale unbelievable. In fact, I net myself bouncing to them every time they pop up over the opening and closing credits of the display.

If you’ve missed your opportunity to obtain this fantastic movie, then now’s your chance to experience it. Either design, KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE is a gem that should not be missed and deserves to be famous in America as it is in Japan. I highly — and I do mean VERY HIGHLY — recommend it.

Face it: any kids’ video you acquire will be watched over and over, mostly in your presence. You want to decide carefully, since you will be spending so great quality time with this video. Kiki’s Delivery Service won’t disappoint you. This sweet, gentle movie is a coming-of-age sage about Kiki, a 13-year-old witch-in-training. The themes of Kiki’s Delivery Service are pleasant ones. There are far worse ways to employ a few hours (or a few dozen) than watching a young girl obtain friends and get self-confidence, especially one as absorbing as Kiki. The DVD Report

Ignore all the overzealous praise of the show’s third season, while it is scrumptious and worth a take for fans of the series, next to the other boxed sets of the present this one pales in comparison and will not wait on as the best plan to glean someone twisted on Monk.

Monk’s third season is most illustrious for the unexpected and controversial firing of Bitty Schram and the hiring of almost carbon-copy Traylor Howard for the second half of the season. Without even a goodbye Sharona was remarried and shipped across America offscreen.

But I come by ahead of myself.

The season opened strongly enough with Monk, Sharona, Stottlemyer and, oddly enough, Randall all following a lead from the previous season to Novel York City, where, unsurprisingly, Monk had one of his trademark meltdowns.

The rest of the first half of the third season had all the hallmarks of the first and second seasons: the random celebrity casting, the fabulous explanations and Monk’s continual grappling with his condition. However, because of the show’s appeal to younger viewers many of the mysteries were dumbed-down and made more childish to bring in younger and younger viewers. But as the remainder of the season progressed it became definite that none of that potential would be acted upon. It became certain that the scripts were written for Sharona and Natalie was unprejudiced thrown into the script as a replacement without distinguished view. I live in San Diego, Ca. and like most people, I witnessed 9-11 through the lens of the collective (and individual) camera eyes. To say this is the “best” 9-11 documentary is, perhaps, snide to say, but this particular program stands high above any of previous 9-11 shows I have seen as far as capturing what must have been a horrific event to view first hand.

What makes this program stand out is it’s lack of a produced epic. No Dan Rather telling me what I already know. No trite musings that have littered most of these types of programs. Instead the producers have allowed the viewer to perceive and hear the events as they happened. It is, for the most portion, straight footage with no production elements added.If any narration IS heard it is from any given individual who happenes to be speaking within the video footage itself. As a viewer we are drawn into this presentation as we glimpse others watching the anxiety, and then contemplate it ourselves. There is a minimal amount of ambient soundtrack included but it is highly underscored and very consistant with distinguished of the raw footage that fills this doucumentary.

As for the footage included, it is reliable to say it has to be some of the most compelling news-type footage I have ever seen, in regards to anything. Great of this footage was done by amateurs but it does not detract fabricate the experience one bit.

One particularly haunting shot that sticks out to me is a shot taken by an individual somewhere arrive the contaminated of the WTC towers after both have been hit. THe camera is busy collecting visuals of a courtyard barren of any people…unprejudiced papers and ashes drifting lazely with ominous whimzey. The sounds of distant anxiety accompanied by an outdoor speaker system playing a muzak version of Billy Joel’s “she’s always a woman to me”. Truely erie.

I could not recommend this program enough. I would say order it allege from the History Channel, but Amazon has it for less, but no matter where or how you gain, do score it. It’s not easy to ogle, but it’s very difficult not to as well.

The memoir continues from Takaki’s perspective, picturing how the distance from his fancy affects him mentally and emotionally. His focus and attention is constantly looking towards some far distance station, thinking about Akari. Due to this his life deteriorates as he is unable to concentrate on anything conclude to him.

The animation is breathtaking thanks to the lighting and the backgrounds which are simply blooming. The secure also increases the enact that the movie has upon the viewer. I was skeptical about the assertion that Makoto Shinkai was the next Miyazaki, and although I really liked he two previous works, Voices of a Distant Star and The Status Promised in Our Early Days, I could not bring myself to lavish him with such high praise until he made a movie that blew me away and that would become an instant well-liked. It would seem that I made a wise decision. Miyazaki is undoubtedly one of the greatest anime directors to ever live, and his films (Sharp Away, Princess Mononoke) rival those of any genera, animation or otherwise. He’s been said to be on par with Disney, but that is a lie. Miyazaki is BETTER then Disney. So obviously I’m always skeptical to people comparing an up and coming director to Miyazaki.

I watched Shinkai’s carrier with spacious interest from his debut film Voices of a Distant Star to this recent film. His strong suits have always been animation and music. No anime director I’ve ever seen can build such glorious animation as he, and few can combine such ravishing and handsome animation with objective the fair music to status the tone and choose his viewers far away to fling the snow covered streets along side the characters. He’s broad at this, but for all that talent he also has a significant flaw to his style which makes his movies miss their corpulent potential; he has no opinion what pacing means. Being only 23 minutes long, Voices was paced very well and never had a insensible moment, but the follow up Places, being rotund length, was paced so badly it made me want to skip mammoth portions of the film so I could examine some more lovely landscaping. If the animation and music weren’t so broad, I doubt so many people would cherish that movie so powerful, even though I personally gave it 4 stars.

But now, with his third film, I expected him to have found away around that weakness and make a film that wasn’t impartial visually magnificent, but also well paced as well. Well sorry, but he hasn’t done it, and my patience with him is wearing thin. In this three section film Tonoo and Akari are best friends in grade school who exhaust all their free time with one another, but as they grow up they slowly drift apart, contacting one another at first through letters and then falling out of contact altogether. It is, surprise, surprise, another romance. This would not have been a predicament if this fresh film didn’t seem like a carbon copy of Voices and Places, especially places. Guy and girl tumble in worship at an early age, guy and girl drift apart as life goes on and they grow up, guy and girl never obtain over each other and miss the other, guy and girl sit awake in their rooms all night thinking about the other, guy and girl never ogle each other again. If you’ve seen Places you can glowing grand ogle everything that’s coming. There are no surprises here, objective gooey romance.

It’s a true disappointment to behold an animator with so considerable promise secure bogged down in these comic romances again and again and again. Voices was marvelous, Places was as well, but Shinkai always tells the same dependable myth. Its not that he likes telling a distinct kind of legend, it’s that he likes telling only ONE kind of epic, every single time. Obtain a grip man; create something a limited more modern. Its abominable enough that his pacing is so terrible but why even bother making current movies when you’re unprejudiced going to state ancient stories again and again and again? If this is all Shinkai has to offer then it’s not worth my time seeing every film he comes up with.

The animation, as always, is radiant. I honest don’t know how distinguished more I can gush over his astounding art. I’ve been saying this since Voices, but his three films are THE BEST bewitching films I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen my gorgeous portion. Unfortunately this film is missing something; the music. Both his previous films have improbable musical scores that made the film impartial that powerful better. I never fail to come by myself humming their main themes after watching them without even noticing. Well I’m not going to slay up humming these tunes, that’s for obvious. For one thing there wasn’t enough BGM to originate with, and what runt there is was fair a remix of faded themes. But the biggest disappointment was the ending song. It’s fair not pretty; I’m sorry, but Japanese isn’t the most ravishing language to listen to. The ending song was nowhere come elegant, in fact I found myself turning the volume down and playing a song of my occupy instead. If they had only play “Don’t Say Goodbye” from Skillets album Comatose then it would have been the greatest scene ever (trust me, listen to the song and examine the scene and you’ll notice what I mean) .

So no, this is not the next Miyazaki, not even halt if this film is any indication. I don’t deem I’ve ever given a Miyazaki film less then 4 stars, he is far and away the most consistent director I’ve ever watched, so if Shinkai can’t pull it off after three tries I judge its an unfair comparison.

Replay value; outrageous.

I saw this on TV and I concept I’d learned all the stuff these documentaries usually have to say, but I only saw unbiased the second half of it or so and it was tantalizing, and I learned a lot of fresh things, even though I’ve already seen a few documentaries on AIDS at school, and I have read a lot about it.

This documentary was really engaging and really effective. It had lots of novel information, and a really deep impact, and at the destroy of it, it ended honest so powerfully that my sister and I objective looked at each other, and both of us had tears in our eyes.

A Populist Expose And Manifesto That Begs A Sequel…Or Two!
“Capitalism” opens with disclaimer from some old film, and then segues into scenes from police videos of people robbing banks and convenience stores. Moore likes to make comparisons. In this case he wants to show us who the real thieves are, and they don’t tend to be desperate drug addicts wearing hoodies.

To me that’s what Moore’s latest film is: a cinematic treatise on crime. Moore uses his excellent skills as an editor to piece together films in a manner that makes you want to scream “Where does he find this stuff?” to paint a telling picture of what America is: a plutocracy. And yes, Mike uses that word and wants us all to learn it, even providing a definition straight out of a textbook.

What Moore also excels at is humanizing crises and the class war by showing us just who’s affected by these forces and why. We’re shown people, real people being thrown out of their homes, being pushed out of their jobs, being paid meager salaries to do dangerous, complicated work, and being informed that companies profited from the deaths of their loved ones through something called “dead peasant insurance.”

He even speaks to various clergy to try and find any sort of modern moral justification for capitalism. He can’t. One priest even goes as far as to state flatly that “Capitalism is radically evil.”

Yeah.

Speaking of all things radical, Moore puts himself on the line by trying to raid the offices of financial institutions, implores us to do the same, and backs that strategy up by showing current examples of how dissent and popular revolt can turn the tables on the gluttons in power, even if those victories are as small as one family being allowed to stay in their foreclosed home and window factory workers given severance payments after a long sit-in.

However, what “Capitalism” isn’t is a mere bleeding-heart piece that is all emotion. Mike tends to do his homework. And that’s what makes him a firebrand. The evidence is laid bare for the viewer to see.

There are some who would call Michael Moore and his documentaries “anti-American.” He’s even told by one Wall Streeter to “stop making movies” when trying to get an accurate definition of what are called “derivatives.” Although I would definitely call Moore a subversive, I challenge anyone to find an ounce of hatred towards America in this piece. No, Michael Moore loves America, but his America is made up of those who toil and have little or nothing. His America is being looted by people that can only be described as white-collar sociopaths who would be selling heroin or whoring out young girls had they not been brought up in wealthy families.

You also get a generous serving of Michael’s trademark humor to make it all go down easier. It has been said that the best way to take the powerful down a peg or two is by poking fun at them, and Moore doesn’t just poke at them, he runs them through with swords of bitingly comedic steel.

If I had one gripe about “Capitalism” it would be that there was so much more ground that could have been covered. That’s why I feel that a sequel is in order as well as a prequel since Moore rather glosses over earlier American history. But I suppose that’s what he have Howard Zinn for.

Yes, this is a paramount polemic against capitalism and dare I say FOR socialism. Even Bernie Sanders gets some facetime.

As someone who has been identifying as a socialist for years, I can say that it only reinforced my belief that the free market is unsustainable, as if my personal experience as an American worker hasn’t been enough to do so. Demons lurk in the details though, and Moore not only shines a light of veracity on them, he also splashes them with holy water, as any left-leaning Catholic such as Moore would.

Christ wasn’t a capitalist sympathizer, something Moore also shows us, and neither is Moore himself. So why should you be? It’s not in your best interests to be one. Think of this as an intervention by way of motion picture for your friends and family who are thoroughly in love with an abusive spouse that is all take and no give.

Talk about a great candidate for an ABC Sunday Night Movie. If I could hold screenings for “Capitalism” I would. It needs to be seen by far more people than any action/adventure blockbuster.

I will never forget the segment of a presidential speech, showed roughly around the beginning of this film, of a man standing behind president Reagan who leans in and says angrily in his ear: “HURRY IT UP; WE DON’T HAVE ALL DAY!” The camera then freezes on Reagan’s shocked face as the narrator simply asks, “Who speaks to the president like this?” It graphically shows you how much influence is measured by the corporations over our political leaders. This film in particular strikes higher notes than Moore’s previous films in that it takes you back to the roots of earlier documentaries and brings out more ample and articulate forms of evidence in support of the general thesis. Capitalism: A Love Story seeks to expose the corruption of our varied form of greedy Capitalism, and to replace it with a more democratized base system, typically referred to as Leftist-Libertarianism or Libertarian-Socialism.

People in the United States generally speak of Socialism as something awful, pointing to Russia and China as examples of the dangers of far leftist thought. But if they would simply take the time to read into some of their literature of political theory, they would realize that there are branches within the movement which are infinitely distinct from those totalitarian nations. It is a category mistake to assume that socialism entails totalitarianism, as if what you see in Russia and China were totally across the board. Thank goodness for Michael Moore and other brave directors that have attempted to tell the Wall Street corruption story! Movies like “Capitalism” and Stock Shock will shine a light on our financial markets…and give back confidence to the American people.
