The Warner Oland cycle is now complete. The special interest groups that insecure the Fox Movie Channel into not showing re-mastered editions of the Charlie Chan films relieve in 2003 have ultimately failed. With the release of Vol 3, ALL the Warner Oland Chan films (not counting the lost ones) are available on DVD for all who want to contemplate them. (Hopefully, the rest of the Toler Chans will follow) Long live the large detective. And to the P.C. forces that don’t like it I can only say is…Thank you…so considerable…
Charlie Chan was originally created by novelist Earl Derr Biggers (1884-1933), who very loosely based the character on Hawaii’s legendary police officer Chang Apana (1887-1933.) Biggers wrote six novels in all, and after several groundless starts 20th Century Fox (then simply known as Fox) hit on the good combination of actors, mystery, and comedy. The result was perhaps the single most celebrated film series Hollywood ever created.
Contemporary audiences tend to thought the films as politically mistaken, but the fact remains that Chan and his family–most often personified by Keye Luke as son Lee–were among the very few certain Asian characters on American movie screens at the time; as such they were particularly current with Asian-American audiences of the day. Volume 3 of the 20th Century Fox collection rounds out the surviving films starring Warner Oland, who was the novel series Chan.
Several Chan films have been lost; the earliest composed in existence is THE Dismal CAMEL, the second in the series. Based directly on the Biggers unique of the same name, this 1931 release finds Chan investigating the cancel of a Hollywood star in Hawaii. Loosely suggested by the William Taylor Desmond abolish and filmed partly on area, THE Dark CAMEL is atypical of most Chan films–and all the more enchanting for that. It also has the fortune of Bela Lugosi as Warner Oland’s co-star, and Lugosi and Oland have unexpected chemistry. Released in 1936, CHARLIE CHAN’S SECRET is a sage of a missing heir, a woman who is under the influence of “spirtualists,” and features seances, a creepy mansion, and lots of foolish-but-fun state turns. Although not one of the best Chan films, it is among my believe favorites.
Released in 1938, CHARLIE CHAN ON BROADWAY and CHARLIE CHAN AT MONTE CARLO were the last two Chan films made starring Oland, who died not long after. Both films feature Keye Luke as son Lee Chan. ON BROADWAY finds Chan doing battle with a murderous blackmailer in Fresh York; it is among the better films in the series, slick and well executed. AT MONTE CARLO finds Chan seeking stolen bonds–and plunging into a mixture of blackmail and kill as a result. While it tends to be a bit slower than most Chans, it too is palatable.
Fox has done very well by the Chan films in the past, but on this occasion the studio has really knocked itself in terms of bonuses. There are the usual, expertly made “featurettes” on various aspects of the series, but on this occasion two films (Dismal CAMEL and SECRET) have very erudite, attractive commentaries. The plot also includes items of interest: a print of Gradual THAT CURTAIN, a very early Chan film that is not properly allotment of the series, and a re-creation via stills and dialogue of the lost film CHARLIE CHAN’S CHANCE. Regretfully, Late THAT CURTAIN is a dire film and best left to hardcore fans, and the recreation of CHANCE is more akin to an Ed Wood film than a Chan film–but Fox gets points for concern. The restorations are not flawless, but they are worthy better than other prints; recommended for Chan fans everywhere!

If you already bought the previous box sets, then feel free to pickup “American Dad!: Volume Three” is a well recommended occupy for any fan of the hilarious FOX sitcom. All 18 episodes of the second and third seasons are presented in standard chunky shroud format. The portray quality is mammoth with shimmering colors and respectable sharpness. Its 5.1 Dolby Digital sound is sure and well balanced. The 3-disc plot features audio commentary by production crew and converse cast and all 18 episodes, unrated audio tracks on selected episodes, “Comic-Con Table Read” featurette and over 60 deleted and extended scenes. Overall, “American Dad!: Volume Three” scores a B+.
This prove is fair radiant. I worship Family Guy, but I fair mediate the writing in this is even one step better. Shimmering and really comic… and the primitive is probably why it does not do better in the ratings.

My sons (ages 6 and 4) cherish this current consuming series, The Spectacular Spider-Man. The explain is considerable better righteous for younger audiences than Spider-Man’s last spirited series, which lasted only one season on MTV in 2003.

This series features all of Spider-Man’s most famed villians, including the Green Goblin, Venom, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Vulture, Rhino and Electro. In Volume 3, Peter Parker finds himself amidst more perilous arch enemies, including the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and Tombstone.
If you absolutely must purchase a DVD correct now (birthday expose, etc.) this is a superior choice for Spider-Man fans. Amazon has the DVD priced $5 below suggested retail sign ($19.95) and this is a noble choice for young children who adore Spider-Man.

The more economical decision is to wait for a DVD space release of all 26 episodes from Seasons 1 and 2, which should be priced around $30. It was announced earlier this year that Season 2 would travel from the CW network to Disney XD. Season 2 is scheduled to originate in March 2009. However, the Spectacular Spider-Man ended production after completing the 26th episode (the demolish of Season 2) . A third season might happen, depending on the ratings Season 2 gets on Disney XD.
In summary, I’d rate The Spectacular Spider-Man series five stars based on the entertainment value for young superhero fans. The shows are accessible without being too scary or adult for the under-10 audience. However, by marketing the first season into four DVDs, I deduct two stars. The series is overpriced, especially in light of the modern economy.
“THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN” has won a lot of viewers due to its current theme and its ability to attract and entertain Spider-Man fans of all ages.
“THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN” is definitely a series for the next generation. Peter Parker is no longer the bookworm that is an outcast in the whole school. No glasses, no poor clothing and no self-esteem issues like the current teenager of the amusing book series. In fact, the spider he has been bit by is not radioactive but genetically altered.
This Peter Parker is cooler and even sports a man bag (or school bag) and has a birthmark.
In volume 3, Spider-Man learned that the Expansive Man is Tombstone and that he will be in for a major surprise when he finds out the identity of the Green Goblin.
The episodes in volume two are as follows:
Episode 7 – Catalysts – It’s the Midtown High Tumble Formal and Peter Parker brings his date, Mary Jane Watson, a magnificent red head that his Aunt May location up. Meanwhile, the Green Goblin makes his appearance and he challenges the Expansive Man aka Tombstone.
Episode 8 – Reaction – As Dr. Otto Octavius is working on an experiment to obtain more smart villains, the Green Goblin locks him in that experiment room and transforms Octavius to the Dr. Octopus.
Episode 9 – The Uncertainty Principle – While Colonel John Jameson tries to land his damaged situation shuttle, Spider-Man battles Green Goblin and learns of his honest identity.
As mentioned, “THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN” is definitely a series that has caught a lot of attention and even IGN has voted it as #30 in their “TOP 100 BEST Intelligent TV SHOWS” poll. Unlike other Spider-Man intelligent series, Spider-Man’s physique matches a young teenager (as it should) .
And for us older folks frail to the classic inspiring series or older humorous books and have young children, there is always something though-provoking with Spider-Man throughout the years, no matter how noteworthy it differs from what we grew up with, the soul of Spider-Man and the characters are faithful but adjusted for current times.
And it’s definitely a series that we can peruse and savor with our children. Another fun and arresting volume of “The Spectacular Spider-Man”.
VIDEO & AUDIO:
Video is presented in 1:78:1 anamorphic widescreen. Animation is nice and vibrant. Lines are smart, characters and objects are simple with shadows and not as remarkable detail when it comes to the backgrounds. But the choice to do this was to replicate fluidity of Spider-Man in the films. But overall, the animation is favorable and dapper.
Audio is presented in English 5.1 (Dolby Digital) and French (Dolby Surround) .

JUDGMENT CALL:
“THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN” has been a attractive solid series thus far. Again, it’s not the Spider-Man I grew up with but for a original generation watching this, it’s adapted for a unique setting, its involving worthy differently than any Spider-Man animations in the past but everything works.
Watching it with my son, I consider it was large to gain a series that would be consuming to the young children, teenagers and the adults.
I’ve read several interviews with series developers Victor Cook and Greig Weisman and both are Spider-Man fans but also fans of other genres such as Hong Kong films and also grabbing ideas from different eras, may it be from “Ultimate Spider-Man”, the films and thus determined purists may have a hard time with it but again, as a fan of the laughable books and the many incarnations of Spider-Man lively series, whats essential is that this series remains faithful to the characters.
Sure, they may have different storylines of how the villains became to be what they are but quiet, the essence of who Peter Parker is and having to be this hero but yet brilliant that it will affect his personal relationships with those stop to him is quiet intact.
Episodes 7-9 was luscious as the previous episodes. And I like how the series captures the relationship (or lack of) the Osborn family between Harry and his father and how the Green Goblin is quite central to that storyline. And you know, when the Green Goblin is around, request to discover quite a bit of action between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin.
Also, it’s tantalizing to perceive how the Large Man (L. Thompson Lincoln) aka Tombstone will be broken-down in the series. So, far he has been able to manhandle Spider-Man and because his company and his character is so integral in the series, especially with the other villains, it will be fascinating to search for how long he will stick around.
Overall, a fun and savory series thus far. For those who are budget conscious, waiting for a paunchy season may be of your best alive to. I wished there was some sort of special feature included on the DVD but overall, an tantalizing series that both young and stale can devour. Check it out!

summer is in stout swing with this disc, and dreadful Rin has his hands tubby, and his eyes on his bevy of beauties. The first episode has the the entire gang (Rin, the girls, and Sia’s and Rina’s fathers) at the beach. With an eyeful of ravishing girls in swimwear, Rina wanting swimming lessons from Rin, Asa using him as a swimtop, and getting taken away with Sia on a float raft, abominable Rin has his hands fat. The second episode has Sia and Rin getting together, does the cute god girl have the upper hand over the others. Add the fact that her father is spreading rumors about Sia and Rin getting married, Sia is on cloud nine. But when she realizes that the stories are hurting the others (especially Rina), she asks her mirror what she should do and is jumpy to discover her reflection returning a self-satisfied grin (could this be her darker half? ) . The third episode takes us to the last day of summer school and parallel stories for Megumi (the flat chested, half-demon girl) and the teacher Miss Ho. Megumi starts her day by running into Rin (ebarassing herself in front of everyone else), losing her wallet and her unmentionables, and giving a cafe plump of people a present. But when Rin shows up to return her lost items she realizes what the others sees if him. Miss Ho starts with with having a heart to heart with a student, tries to bag picked up by either Iskie or the King of Daemons, and also gets a message from her mother about finding a nice guy. The last episode has the gang working to do their summer homework (and being very distracted by being between Sia and Rina), but something seems to be irascible with Remu. When she collapses and the girls do not command Rin what is going on, the Kings of the other realms settle to advise him Remu’s record and what could be happening. Can Rin convince Remu to return the the realm of daemons, and if so can she return?

This series has hit the midpoint and is peaceful bringing on the laughs and the suspense that started in episode one. WIth a slight more fan service, some flesh flashing, and more mysteries to inform, the final two disks will be distinguished anticipated. View you next time…..

By the time this prove reached its third season, the joke was getting a microscopic thinly spread. The plots became further away from the initial plan of two lab mice wanting to engage over the world and more a showcase for the two lead characters’ interaction. This however is not a criticism.
In TV the word ‘formula’ is dreaded. However, here the characters remain so endearing that the scheme of every residence being vitually the same did not matter.

Although there are exceptions, that basically sums up this and the previous two seasons but as the saying goes – If ain’t broke don’t fix it – and this formula was one that bore a lot of comedy fruit.
This expose certainly beats some of the dross that graces our screens these days and had the nerve to query that its audience had some intelligence.
Not laugh-a-minute but smooth a classic.

pinky and the brain has to be my approved cartoon of all time. from bizzare plans to prefer over the world to even more bizarre plans to produce those bizzare plans work, pinky and the brains shenanigans never accept dilapidated. i grew up watching pinky and the brain, and they never pick up ragged. Exclusive and enthralling characters, ranging from brains nemesis snowball, to pinky’s horse/girlfriend, as well as the occasional anamaniac apperances, round out the improper cast of the prove. The joy that they seem to steal in slamming bill clinton and other notorious figure (although mostly clinton), is fair so infectious that you cant assist but laugh. And even better are the deep themes that appear if you peer closely enough, but dont affect the hilarity of the present if you dont gape them, makes the demonstrate fun to peep for everyone. i even wrote a paper on one of the episodes for my compostion class. there will never be another cartoon of pinky and the brains caliber. this point to is the perfect thing to indulge in with your children and friends. it may grasp some convincing to glean them to ogle, but once they do they will be twisted.
